[Tutorial] How to run two programs with a single file.

Postby Fcrate » Wed Nov 16, 2011 1:50 pm

Easy 3 steps to get a file that opens 2 or more programs at the same time with only a click!
You can get your computer to run multiple programs if needed, for example, when I want to run Mohaa, I also want to run Mohaa's clock exe file. so I made this pretty thing:
  • Go to your desktop, open a new text document.
  • write in there the two programs file paths that you want to start, like this:
    Code: Select all
    Start "" "G:\mohaa\MoHAA\mohclock.exe"

    Start "" "C:\Documents and Settings\Aamer\Desktop\Shortcut to moh_spearhead"
  • Save your file, change the extension to ".bat" file name should be like mohaa+clock.bat
PS: there's a split second between starting the first program and the second, for the current example, I made it start moh clock first, because if it starts later, its gonna minimize Mohaa.
PPS: With the same command line, you can add more and more programs! figure you want to open your online kit, you want firefox, xfire, MSN, skype at the same time, you add the paths to all of those, one click and they're all open!
PPPS: This is useful in case of someone like me who doesn't want any program to run on windows start, you can make that file so that it runs all your startup programs without having a slow startup yourself.

Quite a clever idea! Trying to get it to work with pinned websites that I open on my taskbar. But it wouldn't have it. I copied the location from properties. But it didn't like it. But works perfect for proper programmes. For examle I can get it to launch Itunes, Ie together. But it wouldn't let me add a pinned tab like hotmail, or Youtube.

You're using firefox? for that you need another thing. for firefox:
Code: Select all
cd\Program Files\firefox.exe

start firefox.exe http://agb-clan.com
start firefox.exe http://www.gmail.com/

Save that as another .bat file, and it shall work!
Of course you can add other websites too.

in case of internet explorer users:
Code: Select all
cd\Program Files\IEXPLORE

start IEXPLORE http://www.agb-clan.com
start IEXPLORE http://www.gmail.com/

Sure oldy, its the same basic idea, you have to find where the executable ".exe" is located for all the 3 files
for example ( on a win 7 64 bit system ):
Code: Select all
C:/Program files (x86)/Xfire/xfire.exe

And open a new text document, type in there:
Code: Select all
Start "" "C:/Program Files (x86)/Xfire/xfire.exe"

Start "" "C:\<Path of Chrome goes here>
Start "" "C:\<Path of itunes goes here>

Save the file as MyPrograms.bat and put it on your desktop, by double clicking that file you'll be able to run all 3 programs.
If you want these files to start by default as you open the computer, you have to put the .bat file in the startup folder, on a win 7 64 bit system its located here:
Code: Select all
C:/ProgramData/Microsoft/Windows/Start Menu/Programs/Startup

If you got a different System drive letter like Z:/ you better use %SYSTEMDRIVE% instead of C:/
